Soccer Supremos soccer manager game

Soccer Supremos

Soccer Supremos was one of the more popular Play-By-Mail football managers games in United Kingdom, even though in late 1990s they had raising competition from games played by e-mail (PBeM) and also browser based (Swedish Hattrick was taking first steps while Soccer Supremos was still active). Gad Games, that operated few PBM games at the same time, grew from one room business to having over 20 employees and over 20,000 users, which was not really an accident.

Soccer Supremos offered all that their competition had to offer - you were in charge of your team and apart from setting up the lineup for next game and placing transfer offers (that you actually had to negotiate directly with other users, f.e. via phone) also gave you chance to make changes to your stadium, play friendly matches, hire scouts to spy on your opponents or make financial decisions. Match report contained a lot of statistics for both sides and match summary that described the highlights from the game.

Soccer Supremos was still active in late 1990s, but with the easier access to Internet on the break of the millennium the PBM genre begun to fade, not only due to time barrier (via Internet or e-mail you could play many games each week, while in PBM games it was usually one game per week), but also due to costs (postage costs made the game expensive, f.e. 1,50 per single round).

Nevertheless Soccer Supremos is still fondly remembered by those, who had the chance to play it, in 2010 Gad Games was trying to revive the title with online service, but this never happened.
