Sokker soccer manager game

Sokker

In the early 2000s Hattrick was so popular that several people tried to make a copy of the game with slightly changed rules or interface, some of them were really bad, some of them made quite impression, Sokker does not belong to any of those two categories.

First of all the game from the beginning was a Hattrick rip-off with identical player list screen, identical transfer rules, games schedule, etc. With time the game evolved and offered animated game reports, which was a nice idea, but to be honest did not changed much in the gameplay - the basics were really aspiring to be a copy of Hattrick, but lacked the more sophisticated elements that made Hattrick so popular.

One of those elements that were simplified in Sokker is clear from the start - player parameters do not include the information how well he will play on the wings, instead using the pace parameter. It is seemingly a detail, but it makes much difference in the game since you do not know if the player is central midfielder or winger, thus you can’t tell where you should place him on the field. Fortunately (or rather unfortunately) the game does not require such decision - you place midfielders in the midfield without distinction on which specific position they will be playing.

From that small difference between Sokker and Hattrick creates a huge gap between the games - without distinction between positions in the midfield and defence you need less transfers, since any players with skill in the defence will do to fill the formation. The match engine seems "inspired" by Hattrick with not much events taking place, transfers are a bit simplified and so on and so on...

In general Sokker is a simplified Hattrick with animated match presentation (even 3D animations), which with time disappeared since the creators did not managed to switch from Flash animations (blocked by most of the modern browsers) to HTML5 solutions. The game also lacks the atmosphere and with only one league game a week is a bit dry.
