On the Ball - World Cup Edition soccer manager game

On the Ball - World Cup Edition

Anstoss / On the Ball were classic soccer manager games that used impressive animated scenes to describe the events during the game, apart from that it was a well developed, but at the same time not very inventive German game. World Cup Edition was a different approach to the theme - instead of running a football club in the league we take control of the national team that is preparing for the World Cup.

Of course this changed a lot in the gameplay - instead of building the team through training and transfers we already have our set of players available and all we can do is select the best of them to play. During the qualifications our options are rather limited - we can watch the games of our rivals (or rather receive short reports) and organize a course to train our team. Thing pick up after we get qualified - during the World Cup we have to plan every day of the tournament for our players to keep them in good shape, well rested and keep the fans happy.

While the atmosphere of World Cup Edition is rather good the game, comparing to Anstoss and On the Ball, was a bit monotonous ans there are some options missing. Even the matches (identical to original games) are not enough in case of WCE - instead of watching your players in 30-40 games per season we can only see them in few matches and without a proper match report or statistics it is not enough to take care of all the aspects of your team.
