Footie Manager is running since 2002 and in many ways remained same since the beginning - while offering chance of running clubs with real names (and only with real names) and in 8 different federations (England, Scotland, Germany, Spain, Holland, Italy, France and Portugal) we have the team already filled with the players and the real stadium. Each player is described by 9 skills, but also morale, form and style (now abandoned). While the skills were rather typical (handling, tackling, marking, speed, shooting, etc) the style parameter was quite clever.
The style for each player was described by a single card sign (clubs, diamonds, spades or hearts) in one of four colours (yellow, red, green or blue), which meant that each player has assigned one of the 16 combinations (f.e. blue diamonds, red clubs). This style symbol was indication which of your players would work better in the team - two players with same symbol or same colour would understand each other better, but if you would find two players that had same symbol in same colour they would be a perfect match.
Rest of Footie Manager was rather typical - simple training options, simple sponsorship options and (unfortunately) simple match report. The players are not given any ratings for each match, so there is no way to learn who was the hero behind epic win or who is to blame for embarrassing defeat. The league matches are played about twice a week and the game lacks a bit of things to do between them in the game.
