Football Boss soccer manager game

Football Boss

British football manager published by P. Harvey (it is the only thing you will find about the author) in 1991, the year we got The Manager / Bundesliga Manager Professional. It is hard to tell that those two titles are from the same era, not to mention same year. Assuming Football Boss was an indie project still it is hard to determine what the author had in mind while working on it.

First of all most of the interface is just simple text buttons and text data, which looks not great, but you can live with that. The basic scenario is typical - start at the bottom and work your way up to the Premiership. You have your team available, you can hire a coach and physio (although you will not know what exactly they do and how good they in their jobs), you have basic transfer options, contract negotiations and... I’m afraid that is pretty much it. The match engine leaves much to your imagination - all you get is the result of the match, goal scorers, injured or booked list. There are no statistics of the player or of the match.

A very basic football manager that had little to offer and with time was more or less forgotten, with few issues that made it struggle to compete with the games of the era - not very impressive match engine, simple player data, not user-friendly interface, lack of sounds and atmosphere.
