British Manager soccer manager game

British Manager

British Manager simulated the fictitious league containing English and Scottish team competing in 4 divisions. Of course we start at the bottom with team full of below average players and through training, transfers and a lot of luck we build the team to reach the top.

We have basic options available - we set up the training for our players, we can sell them, we can make use of the transfer list that changes every week, we can set the ticket prices or improve the stadium capacity, but overall the data available are very limited. For example the players are described only by their main skill (value between 1 and 10), yet we can improve their technical skills (like passing, shooting) even though they are not visible anywhere.

Even though the game was made in 1996 it is rather old-fashioned game that lacks atmosphere and, being low or no budget production, of course is hardly impressive when it comes to the graphics or audio, but the biggest problem is with gameplay - without match statistics (apart from goals scored) it is hard to understand how our actions affect the outcome of the game. We can bring players with higher skills, but we do not know how good the opponents are since we can’t take a peek into their squads.

Overall a simple and a bit old-fashioned game that was distributed as licenceware, so it was more of a fan effort than professional production.
